For this photoshoot, the task was to explore charity shops in order to find a subject we could use and re-purpose in a studio photoshoot. As a group, we decided on a textured glass vase, with the thinking that it would be interesting to explore its interactions with light and studio settings. We also bought a scarf with an interesting colour and pattern to add contrasting textures and visuals. We then arranged the items, starting in one studio set up - including a soft box light as the main light source which we moved around throughout to achieve different lighting techniques such as side lighting and rim lighting. We also experimented with using interesting shadows through shadow casters. This was initially hard to achieve due to lighting however, we tried turning the soft box off and using a phone torch as the only light source through the shadow caster which worked well.

We changed setups multiple times during the shoot, at one point arranging the props in a light box. For this, we decided to just use the vase as it was a smaller space and we wanted the light to reach all parts of the vase. This also meant adjusting camera settings between each set up which I helped with.

While I did take photographs of my own in each set up, I primarily focused on capturing behind the scenes images to show the process and how each set up was arranged.

As well as finding objects to repurpose, we were tasked with creating a website-like design with the final images, including a hero image, a selection of photos underneath, and a slogan. Ebby edited their images, while Alex created slogan ideas, and Ellie and I used canva to design the layout. These roles worked well, especially under a time limit, which we were able to meet.

I'm happy with the results, I think if we had more time in the studio we could've explored more compositions and additional lighting and studio techniques like flash, flat lays, and coloured strip lights. Additionally, if we had more time post-shoot, we could've each edited some of our own images and incorporated everyone's in the final mock-up. However, I feel that we used our time well and created a successful final result.
